Pyraminx pieces and notation

The pieces

Pyraminx with all the pieces black.

To solve the pyraminx we must first know a little. The pyraminx has 14 pieces of 3 different types.

Centers

Pyraminx with all the pieces black, except the green centers.

The pyraminx has 4 central pieces, they are the pieces that serve as an axis to move each tip.

Edges

The pieces that have just formed the central part of each face are the edges. There are 6 of them and they are the key to solve it, as the tips and centers will be easily solved, the edges are the most relevant part.

Pyraminx with all the pieces black, except the green edges.

Tips

Pyraminx with all the pieces black, except the green tips.

The 4 tips of the pyraminx are the easiest part to solve, if you want to try to turn them and make them coincide with the center piece, you will have completed the first step to solve it.

Pyraminx notation

The pyraminx has 4 faces, but unlike the cube we will rotate the tips instead of the faces.

We can rotate the tip in two different ways, rotating only the tip piece, or rotating the tip together with the layer underneath. The rotational movements of only the tip are not considered in the notation as they are of little relevance and are very simple.

  • U: Up - Up
  • R: Right - Right
  • L: Left - Left
  • B: Back - Back
